If you're thinking
about a career in law enforcement, you're not alone. Many young men and
women in your area are having the same thoughts. The Brattleboro Police
Cadets is a community service program for young people who want to test
and explore their futures. Together with Police Professionals, they learn
the in's and out's of law enforcement--from the routine to the unexpected.
Cadets are
exposed to all facets of the Police profession and are encouraged and required
to interact, train, and ride on patrol with officers. Most people don't
start learning about their jobs until the day they begin work. Cadets
have the advantage. By the time cadets are ready to begin their careers,
they know what they are getting in to. Cadets learn the facts behind
the laws from those who know the law.
Some of the
things cadets are taught include:
-
Patrol Procedures
-
Building Searches
-
Traffic Stops &
Felony Traffic Stops
-
Gun Training
-
Radio Communications
-
Traffic Control
-
And more!
Besides being
taught what it is like to be a Police Officer. Cadets participate in
many community events. Some of these include:
-
Traffic & Crowd
control at specific events
-
Providing security where
needed
-
Working at the police
station
-
Citizen assistance
-
Fund-Raising Activities
-
Assisting officers
The goal for
every cadet is that by their active participation in the program they
will achieve a level of skill and knowledge about the profession that allows
them to make a better educated informed decision about pursuing a career
in the criminal justice system.
If you are interested in becoming a Cadet please contact Lt Evans or Detective Belville of the Brattleboro Police Department at (802) 257-7950.
