Dakota Davis, 22, of Guilford, VT
On 10/2/2021, the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a business on Canal St. for a report that an employee had been embezzling funds.
Investigation revealed that Dakota Davis of Guilford, VT had issued himself close to $7,500.00 in gift cards. Davis logged that he received cash, which he had not, and then would post that amount to a gift card, which he would take possession of himself.
Police obtained video surveillance from the business showing the fraudulent behavior.
Davis was placed under arrest on scene and transported back to the Brattleboro Police Department. There he was processed and cited for the crime of embezzlement.
Davis is scheduled to appear at the Windham County Superior Court on 11/2/2021 to answer for his charge.
Laura Hatfield, 42, of Brattleboro, VT

On November 19, 2019, Brattleboro Police received a report that a prior care giver for an elderly male had embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from him over a period of 3 years. The lengthy investigation revealed that Hatfield had taken over $225,000 from the victim without his permission or for his benefit. Hatfield was issued a citation on 2/9/21 to appear in court at a later date.
Mary Garfield, 33, of Brattleboro, VT
On 12/14/20 Brattleboro Police were made aware of an embezzlement incident that occurred at a business on Canal St.
Investigation into this matter revealed that an employee, Mary A. Garfield, a 33 year old female from Brattleboro, was entrusted with the task of transferring the funds that the business generated to the bank. Garfield, after taking the money from the business, stole a portion of the funds prior to depositing the money at the bank.
Garfield was issued a citation for Embezzelment, and will appear at Windham County Superior Court on 1/26/21 to answer her charge.
