Denise Martell, 54, of Brattleboro, VT
Officer Penniman On 10/24/20 at approximately 1850 hrs Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a 2 car motor vehicle crash on Western Ave and the intersection of the I91N on ramp. Investigation revealed that Denise Martelle, a 54 year old female from Brattleboro operating Nissan Maxima, rear ended a Subaru CrossTrek, which was operated by Amy Newton, a 43 year old female from Putney, VT. Investigation also revealed that the crash was caused due to Martelle operating at a speed in excess of the speed limit, and operating her vehicle in a negligent manner. Martelle also attempted to leave the scene prior to police arriving. Newton was treated by EMS on scene. Martelle was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department to assess her injuries. Martelle was issued several VCVCs, along with a citation for Leaving the Scene of the Crash and Negligent Operation. Martelle will appear at Windham County Superior Court on 12/1/20 to answer her charges.

Tyson Hazelton, 41 of Vernon, VT
Officer Penniman On 10/5/20 Brattleboro Police observed Tyson K. Hazelton, a 41 year old male from Vernon, operating a motor vehicle on High St. Police knew Hazelton to have a suspended license, and also knew that he had court ordered conditions of release to not operate a motor vehicle. Police attempted a motor vehicle stop, and Hazelton fled in his vehicle. Due to the time of day and the vehicular and pedestrian traffic, police discontinued the pursuit. Police later located the vehicle, and Hazelton had fled the scene on foot. Investigaiton revealed that while fleeing from Police, Hazelton had struck another vehicle, and did not stop to render aid or exchange information. Furthermore, it was revealed that a passenger in the vehicle repeatedly asked Hazelton to let them out of the vehicle, and Hazelton refused, putting the passenger in risk of bodily injury. Hazelton was located on 10/14/20, and taken into custody by the Brattleboro Police Department. There he was processed, and ordered held on $5,000.00 bail. Hazelton will appear at Windham County Superior Court on 10/15/20 to answer his charges. Kevin Kaeppel, 59, of Brattleboro, VT
Officer Fletcher On 6/20/20 at approximately 1040 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Dept responded to the area of the 5-way intersection at Main St and Canal St for a report of a minor motor vehicle accident. The complainant reported the other driver left the scene. Upon arrival officers learned the second operator had stopped after the crash and did render assistance changing a tire of the complainant’s vehicle. The second operator was later identified as Kevin Kaeppel age 59, of Brattleboro. Kaeppel left the scene without exchanging vehicle and insurance information with the complainant. Kaeppel did respond to the Brattleboro Police Department as requested and provided the vehicle information. Kaeppel was issued a citation to appear at the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on 8/11/20. Heather Walker, 34, of Brattleboro, VT
Officer Washburn On November 21, 2019 Brattleboro Police Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Main St. in Brattleboro where a vehicle left the scene after the accident. After an investigation Officers were able to locate and identify the operator as Heather Walker age 34 of Brattleboro. Walker was issued a citation for Leaving the scene of an accident, Driving with a criminally suspended license, and also issued a traffic ticket for operating without liability insurance. Walker is scheduled to appear in Windham County Superior Court Criminal Division on December 24, 2019. William Laporte, 20, of Guilford, VT
Officer Fletcher On 9/14/19 at approximately 12:18PM officers from the Brattleboro Police department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Main St. It was reported a truck had struck 2 parked and unoccupied vehicles. A witness on scene reported the truck left the scene, but he was able to provide a registration number. The witness reported the suspects truck sustained damage to the passenger front wheel. Dept of Motor vehicle records indicated the suspect vehicle was registered to William Laporte of Guilford. A truck matching the description was located several hours later on a trailer being towed behind another truck. The plates had been removed, the damage still visible. Laporte was operating the second truck and admitted to having been involved in the crash. Laporte was arrested and transported to the Brattleboro Police station where he was processed for the offense. Laporte was released on citation to appea at the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on 10/29/19 at 0800 hours. Jamie Brownell, 35, of Putney, VT
Officer Hamilton On August 5 2019 at approximately 1645 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department received a report of a possibly intoxicated driver at a business on Putney Road. Thereafter other reports of the vehicle acting erratically came in, and Vermont State Police and Windham County Sheriffs were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle. Windham County Sheriffs located and stopped the vehicle, and arrested the operator, Jamie Brownell, for Driving Under the Influence. Subsequent investigation revealed that Brownell struck another vehicle in a parking lot in the area and left the scene. Brownell was issued a citation for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and released. Brownell will appear in Windham County Superior Court: Criminal Division on September 10 to face the charge. Jonathan Prentiss, 62, of Hinsdale, NH
Officer Emery On 02/12/19, the Brattleboro Police Department took a report of a motor vehicle crash on Main St. It was reported that one of the vehicles had left the scene. After an investigation, it was determined that Jonathan M. Prentiss, 62, of Hinsdale, NH had been involved in the crash and left the scene. Prentiss was arrested and issued a citation to appear at Windham County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on 04/23/19 to answer to the charge. Erik Coughlin, 33, of Guilford, VT
Officer Penniman On 12/11/18 Brattleboro Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Orchard St. It was reported that one of the vehicles involved had fled the scene. Police located the vehicle that fled in Memorial Park. The vehicle had been abandonded. Investigation revealed that Erik Coughlin, a 33 year old male from Guilford, had been operating the vehicle. Coughlin fled the scene of the accident, and abandoned the vehicle. Coughlin was issued a citation for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and for Grossly Negligent Operation. Coughlin will appear in court on 1/29/19 to answer his charges. There were no injuries resulting from the crash, and the road remained open during the duration. Michael A. St. Pierre, 24, of New York
Officer Fletcher On 9/15/2018 at approximately 7:32 PM Brattleboro Police responded to a report of a retail theft at a Putney Road business where a subject fled in a motor vehicle. The vehicle struck another vehicle and a pedestrian as it fled. Police were given information about the vehicle and stopped it on High Street. The pedestrian, a 35 year old male, was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. The operator of a black 2015 Nissan Altima, Michael A. St Pierre (24 of New York City, NY), was subsequently arrested. St Pierre was held in lieu of $1,000 bail. St Pierre has been charged with Reckless Endangerment, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Simple Assault and will appear at court at a later date and time to answer to the charges.
