Tyler Smith, 34
On 11/13/19 at approximately 3:45pm, Brattleboro Officers responded to a report of a man blocking traffic on Putney Rd. near the roundabout. Multiple callers reported the man, later identified as Tyler Smith, Jr., was jumping on cars and had smashed someone’s windshield. Smith immediately attacked the first officer to arrive on scene. The officer deployed a Taser to control Smith, but the Taser had little effect, stopping Smith only briefly. Smith attacked the officer again, charging him and repeatedly throwing punches at his head. A second officer arrived and deployed his baton. Smith charged the second officer, throwing punches at him, and was taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs by the officers. Smith was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Assault on an Officer, and Resisting Arrest. Smith will appear in court on 11/14/19 to face the charges. The two officers would like to express their thanks to the bystanders on scene who offered their assistance and support during and after the incident.
Buddy Vecchiano, 38, of Brattleboro, VT
On 7/27/2019 at approximately 0150 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department were on patrol on High Street. Officers made contact with the operator of a motor vehicle for a motor vehicle violation. The operator was identified as Buddy W. Vecchiano.
Further investigation revealed that Vecchiano was under the influence of alcohol. It was also found that Vecchiano had a criminally suspended operator’s license. During the investigation, Vecchiano fled the scene on foot while officers yelled several times for him to stop and that he was under arrest. Vecchiano was caught and placed under arrest.
Vecchiano was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department where he was lodged. Vecchiano was held in lieu of bail, subsequently made bail, and was released on condtions. Vecchiano was issued a citation to appear in Windham County Superior Court: Criminal Division on 7/29/2019 to answer to the charges of Driving Under the Influence, Operating with a Criminally Suspended License, and Resisting Arrest.
Lyon, Nicholas. W. 27 Year Old Male from Vernon, VT
On 5/16/19 Brattleboro Police were called to a petrol dispersal station on Canal St for a report of an intoxicated male that was causing a disturbance, and had driven to the location. Upon arrival officers made contact with the operator, Nicholas W. Lyon, a 27 year old male from Vernon, VT.
Investigation revealed that Lyon operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Also revealed was the fact that Lyon’s license to operate a motor vehicle was criminally suspended due to a previous DUI. Lyon was placed under arrest, and resisted.
Lyon was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department. There he was processed, and released on a citation for DUI, Criminal DLS, and Resisting Arrest.
Lyon will appear at Windham County Superior Court on 6/4/19 to answer his charges.
Mills, Antoinette. E. 63 Year Old Female from Brattleboro
On 4/21/19 Brattleboro Police responded to the area of 9 Canal St. for a report of a female abusing drugs in her vehicle. Upon arrival Officers observed the female, Antoinette E. Mills, a 63 year old female from Brattleboro, conducting behavior in her vehicle consistent with drug abuse. Mills became physically resistant, and caused a scene on the street. Mills also attempted to injure officers several times.
Mills was placed under arrest, and found to be in possession of 21 bags of heroin.
Mills was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for evaluation. There, she was issued a citation for Possession of Heroin (Felony amount), Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. Mills will appear at Windham County Superior Court on 5/28/19 to answer her charges.
Theodore Colehamer, 44, of Brattleboro, VT
On 4/19/19 Brattleboro Police were on foot in the downtown area when they observed a male operating a motorized electric scooter on the sidewalk on Main St. Due to the fact that the male appeared to be having issues balancing the scooter, and was commiting a motor vehicle infraction by operating the scooter on the sidewalk, contact was made.
Upon contact police identified the male as Theodore D. Colehamer, a 44 year old male from Brattleboro. Police suspected Colehamer to be intoxicated, and ordered him to stay put while they went across the street to fetch their cruiser.
Colehamer fled the scene, and momentarily eluded police.
Colehamer was then seen on foot on Flat St. After a brief foot pursuit, Colehamer was taken into custody.
Colehamer was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department, where he was processed for DUI #4, Eluding a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest. Before Colehamer was released, a search was done on his bag. In his bag a criminal amount of Marijuana was located.
Carrow, Dawn, A – 38 – Vernon, VT
On 4/3/2019 at approximately 2304 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop on Putney Road for a motor vehicle violation. The operator was identified as Dawn A. Carrow (DOB: 8/9/1980). Further investigation revealed that Carrow was under the influence of alcohol. Carrow physically resisted arrest and officers had to remove her from the vehicle. Neither officers or Carrow were injured during the incident. It was also discovered that Carrow had active Conditions of Release which stated that she was not to engage in any criminal behavior.
Carrow was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department where she was processed, issed a citation and conditions and held until sober. Carrow was ordered to appear in Windham County Superior Court: Criminal Division on 4/4/2019 to answer to the charges.
Elizabeth MacFarland, 38, of Brattleboro, VT
On December 21 2018 officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a business on Elliot St. for a report of an out of control customer. Upon arrival officers met Elizabeth MacFarland, the customer in question. MacFarland refused to leave when instructed, and was physically resistant with officers when placed under arrest. MacFarland was transported to the department where she was lodged until sober, and then released with a citation. MacFarland will appear in Windham County Superior Court: Criminal Division on December 24 to face the charges.
Qadir N. Murray, 36, of Brattleboro, VT
On 11/17/18 at approximately 1516 hours officers from the Brattleboro Police Department were in contact with Qadir Murray on Fairground Road regarding an arrest warrant. Officers went to arrest Murray and a struggle insued. Murray was eventually arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Murray was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department where he was held in lieu of bail for his warrants. Murray was issued a citation to appear in Windam Superior Court: Criminal Division on 11/19/18 to answer for his charges.
Possesion of Cocaine, Disorderly Conduct, Negligent Operation, Eluding, Resisting Arrest, Attempting to Escape
Chyquan Cupe, 21, of Hartford, CT
On 10/25/2018 at approx. 1800 hrs, Brattleboro Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Canal Street which did not have its lights on. The operator jumped out of the vehicle without putting it into park and ran from Officers jumping over a fence into neighboring yards. Multiple Brattleboro units and Vermont State Police arrived on scene. A perimeter was set up and a search for the suspect was conducted. The suspect was never found. On 10/31/2018 at approximately 1830 hrs, a Brattleboro Officer on patrol, observed the suspect in the same general location and made contact with him. The suspect again attempted to run. Force was used to control the suspect. He was placed under arrest and was found to be in possession of cocaine. While handcuffed, the suspect attempted to escape. He was identified as Chyquan M Cupe 21, from Hartford CT. Cupe was transported to the Brattleboro Police Department where he was processed and ordered held on $2500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Windham County Superior Court on 10/30/2018 to answer to the charges.
Douglas, James A. 28 of Brattleboro
On 9/26/18 at approximately 6:00 PM officers from the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a local business for a report of a theft. The complainant reported a male subject had stolen a donation box. The male subject fled from the establishment, breaking the box on the sidewalk outside, taking the money, and then continued away from the business where he was apprehended by witnesses.
The subject was identified on scene as a female, James Douglas 28 of Brattleboro. After Douglas was advised she was under arrest, and while being placed into handcuffs she pulled away from the officer and attempted to free herself from the officers hold. Douglas was then placed in police cruiser while the witnesses were being interviewed. During this time she escaped from the cruiser and fled the scene on foot.
Douglas was later located and taken back into custody. Douglas was issued conditions of release and held on lack of$1,000 bail. She was issued citation to appear at the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on 9/27/18 at 1230 hours.
