Ofc. Fletcher On 5/6/23 at approximately 5:05 AM, Officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a local residence for a report of a male subject who had just kicked in the door. Upon arrival the described male subject was found outside the residence, intoxicated and unconscious. The male subject was uncooperative and refused to identify himself but was later identified as Kristopher D. Cain. Cain was taken into custody and transported to the Brattleboro Police station. Cain was issued conditions of release and released on a citation to appear at the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on 5/8/23 at 12:30 hours. On May 2, 2023 Brattleboro Police received multiple calls for possible gun shots from a residence on Linden Street. Witnesses stated they saw multiple individuals fighting and at one point one person fired at least one round from a firearm. When police arrived the occupants of the residence refused to answer the door and there were no obvious signs of anyone that was injured. On May 3, 2023 a search warrant was executed at the residence where the shots were reported to come from. During the search warrant multiple evidentiary items were taken from the residence in connection to the gun shots report, to include a handgun. At this point no arrests have been made but this case remains active. On April 6, 2023 at approximately 0726 hours, Brattleboro Police responded to an apartment on Elliot Street to investigate a death. The investigation revealed that the 40 year old male decedent had died as a result of an accidental overdose on fentanyl. On April 29 2023 at approximately 0125 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department were dispatched to Vernon Street near the Vernon Street Wetland for a report of a vehicle that had gone into the water. Upon arrival officers found Jacob A. Lyon, 24 of Vernon, who was in the vehicle during the crash. Lyon was transported from the scene to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital by Golden Cross with life-threatening injuries. Lyon told officers that there were two other people in the vehicle with him and a search for those people commenced and continued until the late morning, but did not find anyone. The Brattleboro Police Department thanks members of the Brattleboro Fire Department, Golden Cross, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, and the New Hampshire Dive Team for their assistance with this case. Ofc. Cooke On April 15, 2023 at approximately 1728 hours officers from the Brattleboro Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Birge St for a report of a possible family fight. While en-route, officers were advised that one of the subjects may have been sprayed with pepper spray. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the parties involved. At that time, the suspect, Jesse Forrett, 31, of Brattleboro, exited from a rear window in the apartment and began running from officers. Officers chased Forrett on foot onto Elliot St at which time he changed direction and ran onto Frost St. Forrett ran through some backyards on Frost St and back onto Elliot St. During the foot chase, Forrett sprayed one officer with pepper spray and attempted to spray another. Forrett was eventually caught in a driveway on Elliot St at which time he was arrested and then transported to the Police Department where he was lodged. Further investigation revealed that Forrett had been in contact with a subject he was not allowed to based on court ordered conditions of release. It was also learned that while in contact with the victim, he pepper sprayed her and knocked the victims phone from their hand preventing them from calling for help. The court was contacted and Forrett was ordered held without bail pending arraignement on April 17, 2023 at 1230 hours. Forrett is being charged with 2 counts of 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault, Resisting Arrest, 2 counts of Assault on a law enforcement officer, Interference with Access to Emergency Services, Violation of Conditions of Release, Disorderly Conduct and Unlawful Mischief. Sgt. Hamilton On March 30 2023 officers of the Brattleboro Police Department were dispatched to a report of a theft at a residence on South Main Street. Subsequent investigation led to Jean-Marie Giaquinto being issued a citation for Petit Larceny. Giaquinto is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham County Criminal Division on June 20 to face the charge. Sgt Hamilton On April 1 2023 at approximately 1755 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department were dispatched to a business on Main Street for a reported theft. Subsequent investigation revealed that Joshua Majett stole from the store and then returned later after having been told that he was not welcome. Majett was later located, issued a citation and a No Trespass Order for the business, and released. Majett is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham County Criminal Division on May 16 to face the charges of Retail Theft and Unlawful Trespass. Sgt Hamilton On March 23 2023 at approximately 1815 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a residence on Central Street for a 911 hangup. Subsequent investigation showed that Rondale Mapp assaulted another individual there. No one sought immediate medical attention as a result of this incident. Mapp was arrested and thereafter released with a citation and conditions. Mapp is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham County Criminal Divison on March 24 to face the charge of Domestic Assault. Sgt Hamilton On March 23 2023 at approximately 1630 hours officers of the Brattleboro Police Department located Xavier Carter in a motor vehicle on Royal Road. Carter had an outstanding extraditable warrant out for his arrest from New Hampshire. Carter was arrested and held in lieu of bail. Carter is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham County Criminal Division on March 24 to face the charge of Fugitive from Justice. Ofc Cooke On March 13, 2023 at approximately 1502 hours officers were dispatched along with medical personnel to a report of a subject passed out in a vehicle in a parking lot on Canal St. Upon arrival of officers, the subject who was identified as William Cayton III, 28, of Brattleboro, awoke. Cayton denied medical attention. Subsequent investigation revealed that Cayton was in possession of crack cocaine and fentanyl. Cayton was arrested and transported to the Police Department where he was processed and released on a citation to appear at the Vermont Superior Court – Windham Criminal Division on April 25, 2023 at 0830 hours to answer to the charges of Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Fentanyl.
