On Sept 11, 2005 at 0207 aLt Evans observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on Elliot Street and the vehicle turned onto Church Street. The vehicle had VT REG DXC543 and was on a 1996 Honda Accord. Lt. Evans activated his blue lights and siren and the vehicle failed to pull over and stop. The suspect vehicle drove around on the side streets and then came onto High St and then onto Western Ave the lone occupant and operator lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways on Western Ave and the front right side of the vehicle struck the telephone pole by the information booth on Western Ave. When he did this the car spun around. When the car spun the lone occupant and operator was ejected from the vehicle and onto Western Ave. He was not wearing his seat belt and the two air bags did deploy.

Rescue Inc and Brattleboro Fire responded to the scene and transported the operator to Brattleboro Memorial. VT State Police also responded to the scene and assisted the Brattleboro Police.

Western Ave was closed from approx. 0220 until about 0545 in the morning. CVPS and New England Telephone responded to the scene and replaced the pole that was broken.

The lone occupant and operator was identifeid as ERIK P STRAUPE DOB 08-22-1973, (33 YOA). The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
